![]() ![]() ![]() It is uncharted territory, but in fairness a lot of the "new old border" printings have done well - mostly because they've been Judge promos and chosen carefully. It's just amuses me to read people here acting as investing experts while not doing their DD besides the bare minimum - checking current price lists. I will be drafting a couple of boxes with friends and family and saving around five or six extra boxes for the future. If you liked the stock and the game in this case, you would know that Time Spiral block concentrated most of its value on Artifacts and Lands.ĭoesn't matter anyways, I like this game and I speculate just as a bonus. You are all talking about EV when most places didn't even have 50% of the price lists ready (at the moment this thread was created), and when we were still missing Green and Colorless spoilers. I'm done with this thread though, it's clear that most people here doesn't "like the stock" enough to make good plays in the market. If expansions sets fell into obscurity that easily, gosh, where to start. That's the most disconnected statement I have read here, and that's huge coming from this subreddit. I don't know what will happen next, but I'm sure that Tarmogoyf will get reprinted seven more times until it costs $5 in the next decade and these boxes will still shoot up in price for all the reasons we are discussing and even more beyond our imagination.īy the time in store play returns, something else will be available to draft and many will have already forgotten about this set. Is this set directed to the MTG Arena players or to young and older adults? We have no data either way, but it's fine to discuss based on our perceptions, right?īox EV is certainly #1, but it's not static, and neither does it follow logic necessarily. I know that in my country, most LGS during the weekend have an average age of 35. Who is spending money on legacy staples? Kids? Or professionals? I'd compare it to the population in WoW Classic, where it's 95% dad guilds. Then, you have to consider that while there has been an explosion in the amount of new players, the average age of the "whales" of the market is probably way older than the new players. We have no data to know how many people are in the same situation though. ![]() I couldn't believe the cards they printed the first time I saw a visual spoiler of the whole set. I know about Time Spiral, and I wish I could have been there to play it when it was standard legal. I started playing as a kid in 1998, stopped by Onslaught, returned a couple of times, but I missed 2005-2010. The vast majority of players never played Time SpiralĮxactly! But several players have learned of past or missed expansions if they have gotten invested in the game. That said, considering the fact above, it might be very possible that these old frames keep a high price, as this set might not be opened in a big way, but that means it's a collector's game, not a good investment. I, and from the comments I see in other post, I am not the only one, believe that these old frames will not command a serious premium, and as a result, buying those boxes could be very costly. They are effectively betting that these old frame will command a massive premium, and let's face it, most shops will have to keep those prices if they want to profit somewhat from those boxes. As this set is just reprint, prices of cards are known and as said above, boxes will not be worth what Wizard is trying to sell them for. I then see many question on over-inflated prices for old borders, and it makes a lot of sense. I have been calculating the overall value of boxes, and based on current spoilers, it's abysmal.
